Our Lives Overlap

Ok, so I meant to say it sure is a small world, but you know that is way overdone, so there. Just today as my family went to lunch after church, we (rather I) decided I wanted to go to Applebee's. So with one family ahead of us we were seated in about 5 minutes. We joked around with the kids at our table and we played tic tac toe and we colored. Then the food came. We were all tucking in pretty good and I noticed Carl (the hubster) looking over my shoulder, no biggie there are a lot of things to see on the walls at Applebee's. So as we are sitting there, Carl says, "What was Robert George's uncle's name?" That one came out of the blue, I thought to myself! I told him I really don't remember, seeing as I must have met the guy once or twice tops. Well, Carl then tells me, "I wonder how they got a photograph of his plane in here." I turned around and lo and behold there was a photo of a blue Corsair with the name "Sky Boss" with Yosemite Sam and a checkerboard engine cowling (description curtesy of Carl : P ) Now, if Robert is reading this maybe he knows why the photo is there, I wouldn't mind hearing the story. Hint, hint.... Anyway, it is interesting how often we have been to that particular Applebee's without seeing it. There are many other times when we have run into or seen people from our past, but nothing quite so specific as one airplane out of all the airplanes in the world. So there you have it, weird but neat! So Robert, if you are reading this, let me know if "1 is that the same plane and #2 why is the photo in an Applebee's in Brea?

TOPS not for me

As great as TOPS (taking pounds off sensibly) has been for my sis Tina, it is not for me.
I am not saying that I couldn't stand to lose a few pounds, but I will say that I would feel awkward the first time would go. For some reason people never understand my need to lose weight. "What? You?" Is usually what I get. That is, until they see me in a bathing suit. Which at this point in my life is pretty rare. I try to wear clothes that are flattering (wow, what a concept). Not like some who insist on wearing low rise jeans and have their bellies hanging over. "Oh, but they are sooo comfortable!" yeah, because they are allowing your fat to roll free! I don't wear mini skirts or crop tops, and I do my best to not try so hard to be trendy and well, young! I am 41, soon to be 42 and so no, I am not young and hip anymore. I wear nice jeans, t-shirts and on occasion, capri's or shorts. All in all, I look ok, not super svelt (not tall enough anyway), nor do I feel I look petite anymore, which was my norm as a younger me. But I also don't look like I am in anyway an "old" or "frumpy" person. Believe me, my daughter Kaleigh would tell me if I did! She once said a certain outfit looked like Grandma's (Carl's mom, who by the way dresses conservative but nice). Needless to say that one went out for the next garage sale. Not quite ready for that! So, in otherwords, I am pretty happy with the size 8 that I am, and I am doubtful that that will change anytime soon. Although, next year I may have some time to go to the gym and get a bit of a workout. If I ever get back to size 6, I will be pretty happy, I will let everyone know too!

Having Fun with "Build-a-Bear"

If you have never been there, the Build-a-Bear workshop is a place where you can pick a floppy animal, stuff it, put a heart in it, dress it, take it home, and love it! Kaleigh went to a birthday party in which the birthday girl's parents bought all 12 little girls an opportunity to buy and build a bear, or animal. In Kaleigh's case it was a very furry white bunny. She got a cheerleading outfit for her bunny and loves it like crazy! She has been begging to go back to get more clothes. It is extremely popular and it is really a fun place to go and treat your kids to a fun time. The cost is not that bad, the bear or animal can cost anywhere from $10.00 to $20.00 and the outfits are mostly about $10.00 as well. You don't have to buy an outfit but it is kind of neat to find little clothes that reflect your child's interests. The animals are pretty large, about 18" and the clothes are well-made and have quite a few accessories attached. For instance Kaleigh's cheerleading outfit for her bunny "Emily", has the top, the skirt, pom-poms, a megaphone, bows, and a little flag. It really is cute. The whole experience is fun and it helps the kids understand how these animals are made. The one nearest to us is at Downtown Disney and we can walk around and make an afternoon of it. It is not bad for what you get!

Update Regarding Job Opportunities

Well, I am now looking into teaching 3 yr olds at the Preschool where I work. Not my first choice and maybe I will have a better position open up before the new school year, but I don't know. At my school (attached to a Christian Church) we are located in an area that has a lot of church related offices throughout the buildings. We are a bit cramped. As of early June a new sanctuary will be opening lower down on the property and most of the church offices will be relocating to the new buildings. That of course leaves more room for us to spread out. If the budget is approved a new position may open, Preschool Art Teacher. That is what I would LOVE to do! Unfortunately, the superintendent of the school really does not have too much interest in the preschool. He is more interested in the elementary school and the soon to be built high school. So the budget may not be approved. So, in order to keep both children in the school I have to work there. If I get the teaching position it includes a 20% discount on tuition in addition to my pay (which will not be much). The nice thing is that it would only be 2 days a week, Tue & Thurs. I will really be looking forward to the days I don't have to work. Kaleigh will be in 2nd grade and Cole will be in Kindergarten. I will be able to help in their classes and still be creative in my lesson plan and so on.
Right now the 2 day 3yr teacher has to share a room with another teacher. As soon as the church moves out of the buildings all the three yr old teachers will have their own classrooms, no sharing neccessary. Another reason to accept the position. I, at this point have the most seniority for wanting the position and will probably get it. That is if I make it through all the interviews! First, a formal interview with my director, then another interview with the Superintendent, then the last with the entire school board! Sheesh, talk about overkill! Anyway, that is what is up in my world!
